2015 Milestones for the Struthers Clan Term 3

Ok so this term has started with School holidays and the kids had a Movie Night on the 9th which went really well with Aiyahna, Calem, Liam, Clint, Reidy and Leah. Liam unfortunately left early.

Then we had Thomas’ 16th Birthday and his first party in many years. He also had Nathan and Peter sleepover which was great, not to mention Reidy and Clint. Cupid visited on the holidays and we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Clint better who has since become Caitlin’s boyfriend. Lockie has introduced us to Pathfinder late last term which has been very interesting and fun.

21st Bridget and Justin went to primary schools for NTDL (National Tree Day Lockyer) and they planted trees with the kids. Went to the Hogan’s for dinner. Finished the back wall of house and moved the back door with great thanks to Ted for his help and some timber. Reno is coming along it is getting exciting. Another great weekend with the kids.  Sunday went to pick up a piano not without drama. The Piano fell on Justin’s big toe so the evening ended with him going to hospital to get it checked out. Matthew naturally did take photo’s but I won’t put them on here. Cupid is busy this month with Lockie and Tiff officially going out YAY!!

Caity on the 28th also went to primary schools with NTDL for tree planting with the kids. Thursday night was Girls night in for Beyond Blue at the school which Bridget was hosting and involved in.

We attended even though we shouldn’t have as Caity was sick wanting to support Bridget and Beyond Blue and we only lasted for the main meal and I had to take her home sick.  Matthew was away in Newcastle for work. Off to the doctor’s the next day to discover she had larungitis, and unfortunately had to cancel helping with NTDL for planting trees at Lake Clarenden, although Justin and Bridget we able to assist. see NTDL post

Matthew went off to the V8’s at Willowbank to scrutineer for the whole weekend. So far we have had Lockie home most weekends which has been great!! Next step with Reno will be the walkway from lounge room to back verandah.  Windows are gone, and it is getting exciting… Now to get the piano inside LOL oh that will be fun. Curtis turned 18, and had a girls night at Nessy’s.

2015 Milestones for the Struthers Clan Term 1

16 mar 2015  This year began with the family going to the Escape Room as we bought vouchers for Christmas and this was our family present.  It was awesome and we had a great time pretending to be detectives and solve the mystery.  The Choice we selected was “Missing Missy”.

Matthew was accepted back into the RAAF Reserves. We celebrated our nephew’s 17th Birthday, oh how times fly’s James. Had a family sleepover and Bridget got to meet them properly. Had a games night playing Cluedo which was great. Then to the rock pool the next day for a swim before heading home.

We have a new edition to our busy family. Curtis is now living with us while he finishes this year in year 12. Curtis is one of Justin’s mates and like a son to us as we adopted each other years ago when we first moved to the Valley. Curtis and Felix his brother, one of Lockie’s mates, are two of our many extended family that we have adopted over the years and are both like sons to us, and siblings to the kids. Justin went to Simoun’s Birthday Party and went to a Tepenyaki  Restaurant for the first time. He has also joined the National Tree Day Lockyer Committee whom his girlfriend Bridget is junior area coordinator for.  Justin has himself a job at the Markets in Toowoomba where Curtis has joined him. Julie found a car finally.

So far have been able to catch up with the Hogan’s who recently moved down from Townsville which was awesome to see them again. Plan to have many more catch ups. Had a visit from Kim D which was a lovely surprise. Other catch ups have been with Cheryl R, Kellie-Ann, Nikki D and Grace B oh and Tom and Janet S.

Matthew and Julie started Lesson learning Rockabilly Dancing. So far Kellie-Ann, Caitlin, Curtis and Felix have come with us and we have all enjoyed it. Lots of fun for all age groups. Had to get some music to practice to so now we can practice at home. Justin left for Melbourne with school for the Aerospace Trip to Avalon Airshow. Caitlin celebrated her 14th Birthday. Justin became a Senior Leader and Caitlin is a Junior Secondary leader and are both on the Student Representative Council.

Busy Weekend Justin, Bridget, Matthew and Caity all did Clean Up Australia with NTDL. Then raced to Uncle Damien’s for Matilda’s 6th Birthday, and then off to our first Toga Party for Billy’s 18th and we all had a great time. More news for March Felix Curtis’ brother has also moved in whilst we help him with enrolling into the RAAF. Lockie also moved out on his own with 4 friends to Toowoomba to be closer to uni. Ready for the big world as a fully fledged adult now and I’m sure he will enjoy the adventure he is now embarking on being the start of his adult life. Matthew often joked about kicking them out once they were 18 but we lost one and gained two so I not sure that its working out quite as he expected ha ha. Felix also celebrated a birthday. Caitlin and Curtis both were selected into Dance Troupe so looking forward to the Estieddford’s later in the year. March is nearly over and so will term one of school for the kids.

2015 Family Tree Thank you Facebook!

Last week one of my cousins add me and I have been chatting with her getting to know her. So today I was checking out family members on one side of the family that I have added on facebook to see how many more relatives I could find and see what they look like now.  To my surprise I have located nearly all but one Aunt and her children and one cousin not on facebook.

I started with had 2 aunts and 1 uncle and 4 cousins added, and 1 aunt and 2 uncles pending.  Now I have 2 aunts 1 uncle and 9 cousins added with 1 aunt, 2 uncles and 5 cousins pending. This happened in a day.

It doesn’t matter if they don’t all add me it is just amazing having the ability to find them and send them a message and or see what they look like. There are many I have never met so to see a photo was great. They all live all over the country so I would have no idea where to start to find them.  Using facebook was a great tool to find them other than relying on relatives to pass on a message.

Using facebook for good instead of evil lol.

So thank you facebook.

2015 Family Tree

Hi all, I am tracing our family heritage which is a work in progress.

We have a tree on my heritage website which you can get access to if I accept your request.

We are always looking for new family members but more importantly we are interested in any information re health, achievements, stories of you direct family or relatives as we are hoping to publish our trees in a book which my software has the ability to do. So please share as much as possible with us via email(see contact us) or phone as we are trying to also capture who we were(like a mini profile) and signs of the times as a historical record to leave for future family generations. I would like this to be something that each generation shares even if it is you crazy great great aunt Julie did the family tree and it kept blah or blah blah has a copy because you never know how this could help future generation with either medical history or any other tid bits we share.

I personally wish this was done for me to have access to(although am enjoying researching it too), it is a very interesting topic and seeing where families blend together to make a new branch is always interesting to merge their trees. For example bit of trivia Caitlin our daughter shares the same birthday her direct ancestors great grandfather Colin Rainbird on her mother Julie’s side and her Great x 2 Grandfather John Albert Kirkness on her father Matthew’s side. This date was also significant as it is the anniversary when her father Matthew joined the RAAF in 1990. If we didn’t start doing our tree we would never have realized this information. There are many other bits of trivia you can discover, for eg I not only found out my Great x 5 Grand father was a convict but through researching I found the ship he traveled here on, the ships log, the medical log when he was sick on his trip and the crime he was convicted of, how he left a wife and 2 children in England never to see again and I am a descendant of his new family after his time was served.

Although it not for everyone to research it, it is interesting to find out about some of the skeletons etc in our past. It has all played a part in molding who we are today by way of experiences in each generation and in how we parented and tweaked each generation to become who we are.

As i said its not for everyone but I find it fascinating. PS also need photo’s not only of people but houses, ships traveled on, Castles owned etc….

2015 Dating your spouse…. Update

So we are 8 months into dating. 4 months in Matthew re proposed. We have pretended to in together which could be said happened when I returned from a week in Newcastle LOL. Which brings us to 2015. So far 2015 has bought on lots of changes and busy lifestyle. We  have found ourselves caught up in life and drifting back to some old habits we aren’t perfect lol. We started to go to Rockabilly lessons which is something we enjoyed but finding the time is not all that easy some weeks. We have had a chat recently about managing our stress as this was one of the things we felt was a contributing factor to why we were creeping back and being slack. Working out how to manage our stress before we became short fused was a wise choice in hind sight. We also have individually taken time whether it was deliberate or not to remember how things were in the beginning of our relationship to try to work on ensuring we stay on track and to re ignite some of those old feeling we know are still there but get masked from lifestyle and stress.  What we have found so far is they weren’t too far from the surface which was a pleasant surprise.  As I have said before we don’t have all the answers but even if one thing we have done can help the ones we love and care about I am happy to share. Naturally there are things we won’t be putting in this post but happy to talk about if asked :-).  Looking forward to whats in store for us this year cause its nearly Easter.

Well Easter in over and a trip away for two days was just what we needed to re focus and de stress a little. One thing is clear the more effort you both put it the more rewarding and closer your connection is. So it’s always a work in progress LOL. Naturally this also depends where your relationship is at as to how much work it would require to get to this point. very happy with our progress although slowed and at times feels like set backs its finding a balance with life and love too much of either and the other suffers.

Love life balance and communication I think are the keys to keeping a good relationship going. If only we could work out a how to get the perfect work life balance that is a whole nother subject but one we are also working on. Maybe I should write about that next.

2015 Billy’s 18th Toga Toga Toga!!!

Well another of our friends are also celebrating the ranks of their kiddies becoming adults.  Happy birthday to Billy!  Have to say was our first Toga Party for most of our family and my two adopted boys. We all had a great time unfortunately Justin was not available. Highlight would have to be dressing up Hayley’s nieces and nephew in toga’s and Thomas coming out from the games room to dazzle the kids (and adults) with his rubik’s cube skills. As always was great catching up and meeting Hayley’s family that attended.

2014 Matthew’s 30 Day Nutritional Cleanse

Well I finished without too much hassle.  30 days without caffeine, 30 days without alcohol, 30 days without eating whatever I want whenever I want.  Julie and I completed a nutritional cleanse designed to remove the toxins and “reset” your body so it can do what it needs to do on its own, I was not looking to lose much weight, just get healthier and tidy up the loose bits live the love handles.  It involved replacing two meals a day with shakes (mine were vanilla with fruit and stuff in them sometimes to mix it up) taking some natural supplements and doing a couple of deep cleanses during the month.  The deep cleanses involve having basically liquid for the two days using the berry flavoured powder four times a day.  Not really that hard. The benefit is gaining a better understanding of what I should be eating to be healthier, including my portion sizes, and the cleanse somehow makes you feel so alive with energy.

During this time I was also just getting to the finals series with AFLQ in Brisbane.  I was very worried doing this cleanse that it would affect my performance on the field but the result was quite the opposite finding I had more than enough energy to handle what I needed to.  I even got selected to umpire the Grand Final for the QFA (South) Reserves.  I did put in everything I had throughout the year to get selected for as much as possible but the Grand Final was by far my most favourite game ever to  umpire, and in my first year umpiring in Brisbane, I am very chuffed to have been a part of it.  The Grand Final went well with me emptying all my takns of energy by the end of the game and once the adrenaline started to wane I had to sit down or I was gonna be on my arse anyway!  The best feeling ever when two teams put everything in and you are able to keep up and manage it well, in my opinion.

Anyway, still having loads of energy it is time to find a mountain bike and hit the trails, hopefully with the kids as well.  If you want to know more about what Julie have done with our cleanse just get in touch with us through Facebook.

Measurements too (the difference is listed):

Neck .4cm

Upper arms L .1cm /R .2cm

Chest 2cm

Diaphragm 2.5cm

Waist 14.3cm

Abdomen 6.6cm

Buttocks 4.1cm

Upper Thigh L 3.1cm/R 3.5cm

Calf L .9cm/R 1.2cm

Upper Knee L 2.5cm/R .9cm

Here are a couple of photos of my cleanse progress.  I didn’t think I had much weight to lose, until I saw the photo’s.

2014 40 Hour Famine

Lachlan and Caitlin this year participated on the 40 Hour Famine again to raise money and awareness for global hunger. Lachlan’s 3rd year and Caitlin’s 2nd.

Lachlan was co captian for the USQ Toowoomba team. Hannah Wilton also joined Caitlin again and they did great!!

Well done to all of you! I would love it if each of you could leave a comment to let us know how you went and what you learnt from this experience.
